LifSkool is Olimalar Foundation’s school-based life skills programme, helping young people build practical skills for everyday life.
This week, we began a 5-week programme with Std 5–6 boys from a nearby school. Our first session was all about getting to know the students and exploring our first life skill — self-awareness.
We started with a quick “This or That” game, giving the boys a simple way to share their likes and preferences and notice how similar and different they are from one another.
We then introduced their LifSkills workbooks and personal folders. For their first activity, “This Is Me,” the boys began decorating their folders with drawings, words and symbols that represented things they like, things they are good at and what matters to them.
Simple, creative activities helped the boys engage quickly and gave us an easy way to begin getting to know them. With a late start and limited classroom space, we had to keep things simple and flexible. The boys began their designs in class and took them home to complete.
A simple first session, but a lovely start to the weeks ahead.
