Exploring pine wood for a more sustainable frame backing

Facilitated by Shemeer Babu and Vivek V

What the work needed: people, time, money, space and materials.
What went in
We compared recycled paper and thin pine wood pieces. We thought about strength, lifespan, recyclability and how well each protects what the frame shows.
Outside help
Mr. Jacob, our frame maker, discussed whether the pine wood pieces could be cut thinly and joined into a backing panel.

What was done with those inputs, step by step.

We talked about the backing panel for our Preamble frames. We wanted it to be sturdy, long-lasting and sustainable, while protecting what the frame shows. We first thought about recycled paper. Then we explored whether we could cut pine wood pieces to about 3 millimetres thick and join them to make the backing.

We discussed this with our frame maker, Mr. Jacob. He was positive about trying the idea. We are waiting for a sample. We will decide whether to use it once we see it.

What the team will keep or change next time.

Choosing a frame backing means weighing sustainability, strength, lifespan and protection together. Talking with the maker helped us find a possible approach. We still need to examine a sample. We have not made a final choice.
